Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission The MHSOAC provides vision and leadership, in collaboration with clients, their family members, and underserved communities, to ensure Californians understand mental health is essential to overall health. MHSOAC holds public mental health systems accountable, provides oversight for eliminating disparities; promotes wellness, recovery and resiliency; and ensures positive outcomes for individuals living with serious mental illness and their families.
Lisa Conn Akoni, MA, MFT Lisa has 25 years of experience in the behavioral health field, earning her bachelor’s degree in Sociology at the University of California Santa Cruz and her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Santa Barbara. Her academic training and expertise are in Clinical Psychology with specializations in Couples Therapy, Crisis Intervention & Assessment, Trauma, Gender Specific Treatment, Childhood/Adolescent/Adult Sexual Abuse & Assault, Personality Disorders, Harm Reduction, Positive Youth Development, Juvenile Justice & Child Welfare Involved Youth, Attachment Disorders, Commercial Sexual Exploitation, and Trauma Focused Sex Trafficking Program Development and Training. Her primary passion is developing innovative supports for youth and young adults through inclusion, opportunity, empowerment, connection, and strengthening resilience.
New Beginning Counseling Center New Beginnings Counseling Center is a nonprofit mental health organization based in Santa Barbara that provides psychological counseling and assessment to people of all ages. They offer a sliding scale and turn nobody away due to an inability to pay. Their average fee is $13 per session! The Counseling Center is led by Clinical Director, Dr. Crystal Ramirez, who leads a team of more than 30 counselors and 10 clinical supervisors.
