Strength
It’s not the vulnerabilities, anxieties, weaknesses we have that interest me, but the way they are often covered behind a wall of arttificial strength.
The language of pots has become a vehicle to reveal a seemingly strong form as a weak and fragile vessel. Using the personification of clay the piece has a defined foot, lip, shoulder neck and belly.
Focusing in particular on those like me who appear to be strong, confident individuals but inside are riddled with anxieties, fears that no one sees. Those who find worry in everyday situaions, are fragile and may crumble at any moment.
With the belly of the pot full of anxiety, this piece appears sturdy but is highly vulnerable.
