Our Bodies, Our Minds Facilitator

Carly Weckstein

Carly D. Weckstein is a director, sex educator and intimacy choreographer living and creating in Los Angeles. She is the Artistic Director & Founder of The Illyrian Players (est. 2011), a nurturing and empowering home for theatre artists. Carly is inspired to explore the intersections of theatre, community, healing, sexuality, and art as activation. She regularly teaches theater and sex ed classes, including Healing Through Performance (for actors & non-actors) and Sexual Empowerment 101. Carly is a passionate advocate for artists and actors, championing communication and consent as an essential part of the creative process. She is deeply aligned with the healing power of theatre and performance, and the ability of art to allow people to access a deeper, more embodied level of empathy than they can access through intellect alone. As both a director and a teacher, Carly operates under the pedagogy of holding spaces for artists and students to safely confront heavy or delicate subject matter, and believes that creating these spaces leads to a deeper level of vulnerability, honest communication, and growth for both individuals and communities. She is thrilled to join the AWI team as an OBOM facilitator.
