Carlyn LaGrone

Carlyn (she/her) was born on the West Coast, went to elementary school on the East Coast, middle school in the South and graduated from high school in the Midwest. Carlyn graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in Health Systems Management & Business Administration and has an M.S. in Health Communication from Northwestern University. She has worked within the health care system in roles that focused on LGBTQ health, youth, uninsured folks and people of color across the city of Chicago. Through her work she was able to learn more about the landscape of care and about her interest in advocating for others related to their health and wellbeing, especially those that often struggle in clinical settings. Carlyn is very passionate about the most stigmatized aspects of health — mental and sexual health — and has a strong interest in being a part of these conversations which deeply aligns with the incredible work AWI does! In her free time, Carlyn is the Co-Creator of Overhaul of Advocacy, is often referred as the “Pizza Queen” by her friends, and is a huge fan of documentaries.
