AWI Voices With Impact presents: The Things We Never Say
Facilitated by Alondra Umaña
Featuring:
- Promise by Lane Stanley
- Blue Garden by Natalie Murao
The influences of stigma – whether internalized, societal, or historical – can dictate what stories we feel comfortable sharing, and the details we choose to disclose about our experiences. What is the impact of stigmatized narratives remaining silent, and where is the power in giving voice to these stories? In this session, filmmakers Lane Stanley and Natalie Murao join us in exploring their films “Promise” and “Blue Garden”, and hold space for nuanced discussions around the power of verbal and nonverbal storytelling, highlighting the often stigmatized topics of addiction, grief, and intergenerational trauma.
Led by the filmmakers, the festival features a selection of interactive seminars and engaging discussions, related to the films and the themes we are exploring through this year’s program. If you are interested in learning about these sessions, you can see them all on our Voices With Impact information page!
